Has it really been over 8 months since I posted anything about my work?? It has. Believe it or not I have been at work albeit much more slowly than my norm, if that\’s even possible.
Here\’s the thing…
My girls are getting to an age where things have gotten more demanding. But that time is also coming to an end. Kind of. My elder daughter heads off to kindergarten soon and my younger one will simultaneously be attending preschool for three days a week. So I\’ll actually have more time on my hands than I\’ve had in over 5 years. So, in light of me not being able to spend as much time with my older one I had made the decision to dedicate more of my work time to family time. I feel like the art will always be there but my daughters will only be this age once so the priority was a no brainer. Needless-to-say though I have been less than prolific in the arts this year. But on the plus side, we had lots of good family time.
But as I said, I have been working! I have been working on one piece for the last 5 months. And I\’m really happy with it as it marks a new direction for my work. I decided years ago that I did not want to do custom designer toys anymore. Not because I don\’t enjoy them but because I never had any time to do anything else and my portfolio was not reflecting the artist I feel I am. So, aside from some grandfathered pieces I still owe, and one final dunny series, I will no longer be doing custom toys. Well, never say never right? Someone could always make me an offer I could not refuse 🙂
Anyways, on to the work.
Well, kinda. I had made five more pandas a while back so that Pause could experiment with a new colorway. Well, he\’s painted them up and will be selling them on his site this Friday. Each on of these were sculpted by me just like the original limited edition we made. I sent them to him and he has painted five different versions. If you missed out when we sold them before, this might be your last chance to grab one. Good luck.
Here\’s my latest custom.
The Woodcarver has worked diligently to create his own private fishing boat. Not quite there yet for this first timer and he may have overestimated the scale of his plans but he\’ll make due cause he\’s got visions of pike fishing in his head. Hewn from a large pine tree trunk and root, this chunk of wood is slowly becoming a thing of fancy. To keep him going the Woodcarver drinks copious amounts of brew and ocassionally chomps down on some fresh bread made by his sweetie. He loves working on his craft. He could do this forever.
Hi shoppers. I\’ve put everything on sale in my store including my AP Kozik Busts. Everything is 50% so if you wanted a Kozik bust but could not afford this is going to be your best bet. There are also t-shirts, stickers and a few older toys that are at really low prices. Happy shopping.
And the final custom Kozik bust for my kickstarter backers. I kept this one for last as it was really the most fun bust to do. I enjoyed them all, but this one was a blast, and only made me feel slightly creepy and stalker-ish as I stared for days at pictures of Frank. It\’s kinda a reverse Jason Freeny piece. Check out some WIP pics below. Yeah, that\’s a mold you see there. So who knows, maybe I could make a series of smaller ones.
Now available in a limited white edition of 50 pieces
Distributed by DKE TOYS and available at fine designer toys stores
The first custom bust I did for the kickstarter rewards earlier in the year. I was waiting to post this because it\’s not quite done yet. The client is an artist as well and we decided to make it a collaboration. So in a few places I left the piece bare to the gesso for them to paint.
Here\’s another custom kozik bust for the kickstarter rewards. This was a fun piece to work on and more than a little creepy at times. Still, my 4 year old daughter loved him.
Here\’s another Kozik bust I finished a little while ago. Originally I had intended to just use a crackle medium to get an aged look for this piece but the medium just didn\’t work the way I wanted so instead I spent the next few weeks painting lines until I lost my sanity.
OK, it\’s time for me to get rid of a few things if I can. I have some older pieces sitting around taking up space and some newer items taking up much much more. I\’d like to make some space in my office and house.
First and foremost are my artist proofs of the Kozik bust colorways that I\’ve already released. These guys are taking up way too much room in my house. So if you want an artist proof with domestic shipping included in the order, head over to my shop and get one. There are 6 different colorways including the two kickstarter exclusives you might have missed, RED and GID. I\’m only selling 4 right now so if you want one of the very popular GID, better get them now. There is also Charcoal Grey, Green, Orange and Pink.
And for select items on my site
I\’ll be taking up to 50% off.
Please, I need the room. And money, that would be nice too.
